AP is one of the more vulnerable areas susceptible to fraud as well, hence it is increasingly important to recognize and properly react to possible AP fraud. Richard Cascarino, MBA, CIA, CISM, CFE, is well known in international auditing circles as one of the most knowledgeable practitioners in the field. Mr Cascarino is principal of Richard Cascarino & Associates, a highly successful audit training and consultancy company.
He is a regular speaker in national and international conferences and has presented courses across Africa, Europe, the Middle East and the USA. He has served as president of the Institute of Internal Auditors in South Africa, was the founding regional director of the Southern African Region of the IIA-Inc, and is a member of ISACA and the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners.
Mr Cascarino is chairman of the risk and audit committee of the Department of Public Enterprises in South Africa and chairman of the Audit Committee of Gauteng Cluster 2 (Premier's Office, Shared Services and Health).
Topic Background:
With the increasing growth of internal fraudulent activities within the business world, it has become essential that both management and auditors are aware of the indicators of such frauds and the preventative mechanisms which can reduce the likelihood of such frauds succeeding. Fraud occurs most easily where liquid assets of the organization move and perhaps the area most vulnerable is within the accounts payable (AP) operational area.
