With over 40 years of HR consulting experience, Ronald Adler is the president-CEO of Laurdan Associates, Inc., a human resource management consulting firm that helps organizations enhance the value of their human capital and reduce their exposure to employment practices liability through human capital risk management.
Mr. Adler has served as a consulting expert on work force, employment practices, and unemployment insurance issues to Bloomberg BNA, HR Magazine, and other publications and newspapers across the country. His research findings have been used by the Federal Reserve Board, the EEOC, the National Conference of State Legislatures, EPLI carriers, and other international organizations. He is an internationally recognized thought leader on HR audits and is a co-developer of the Employment-Labor Law Audit™ (ELLA®), the nation’s leading HR auditing and employment practices risk assessment process.
As an adjunct professor at Villanova University, he teaches graduate courses on HR auditing and HR management. He is also a certified instructor on employment practices and insurance issues for The CPCU Society, has conducted continuing professional education courses for the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and has conducted continuing professional education courses for SHRM, the Institute of Internal Auditors, the Institute of Management Consultants, the Maryland Advanced Tax Institute, and the Maryland CPA Society.
Mr. Adler has testified before the U.S. Senate Finance Committee on unemployment insurance issues and before the U.S. Senate H.E.L.P. Committee on genetic discrimination in the workplace. Additionally, Mr. Adler is a member of the Institute of Internal Auditors, and holds a B.S. in finance from the University of Maryland and an M.B.A. degree from Southern Illinois University.

For publically traded companies, HR management’s role has significantly become more important. They must now think strategically, be cognizant of Sarbanes-Oxley, Dodd and Graham, and the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines, and be able to use and report metrics and analytics. Key issues HR must address include using human capital to help their companies achieve business objectives, understanding how human capital makes their companies more competitive, and helping their companies identify and protect against human capital related risks.
From investors’ perspective, HR must now be responsible for more than managing leadership depth, leadership quality, and employee engagement. They increasingly must develop and report manage key metrics that indicate how the organization has performed, how well it is currently performing, and where the company expects to be in the future.
For HR, human capital metrics play an important role in responding to these issues.
