The Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 (IRCA) imposes civil and criminal fines penalties for employment of illegal aliens. Individuals responsible for IRCA compliance can be held personally liable. IRCA also prohibits discrimination on the basis of citizenship or national origin. Employers who improperly complete Form I-9’s (paperwork violations) are subject to monetary fines.
This webinar will offer attendees an overview of Sections 1, 2 and 3 of the form, Lists A, B and C of the acceptable documents and the receipt rule to ensure Form I-9 compliance within an organization.

Jim Watson is an accomplished customer-focused business partner with more than 20 years of comprehensive human resources generalist experience in union and non-union environments, providing leadership and advice to business leaders and managers on the people-related matters impacting their operations. He has worked in non-profit, healthcare and for-profit environments. His expertise includes: labor law understanding and compliance including FMLA, EEO, ADAAA, USERRA, FLSA, NLRA, E-Verify; employee performance evaluation administration; policy and procedure development and administration; management and employee training; and, harassment/concerns investigations.
Mr. Watson is an adjunct faculty member at Macomb Community College and a lecturer with The University of Michigan-Dearborn where he has taught a human resource management course. He provides human resources consultation services to clients seeking to improve the people-related aspects of their business.
Mr. Watson holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology degree and a Master of Arts in Industrial Relations degree, both from Wayne State University. He is a current member of the Detroit Society for Human Resource Management (DSHRM) and the national Society of Human Resources Management (SHRM). He earned his Senior Professional Human Resources (SPHR) certification in 2004.
