PETROLEUM WAX IN IMPREGNATED PAPERS
Product Details
This method determines quantitatively the total amount of petroleum wax in
impregnated papers, including both “dry waxed” and so called “waxed
paper” constructions. The wax is extracted with hot trichloroethane, which is
then removed by evaporation, and the wax weighed.
The method is not intended for wax-sized papers, because these generally
contain such quantities of rosin or other soluble matter as to impair its
accuracy. Neither is it intended to determine surface wax on waxed paper or paperboard, for which TAPPI T 497 “Surface Wax on Waxed Paper or
Paperboard” (withdrawn in 1985; former wax testing method available from the
American Society for Testing and Materials) is applicable.
