Why Should You Attend:
The cost of implant associated surgical infections for healthcare facilities and patients continues to be significant, with an average of 2% of all hip and knee replacement procedures resulting in post-operative surgical infection. The cost for each infection is tremendous in terms of patient suffering and also dollars. One recent paper estimates the cost for a singe case of prosthetic joint infection to be between $389,307 and $474,004.
The 60-minute presentation will describe how and why air contamination poses a great infection risk for procedures involving an implant. The number of surgical disciplines placing implants is continuing to grow and currently includes plastics, orthopedics, spine, breast, general with hernia mesh placement, GYN with pelvic floor mesh placement and cardiac with pacemakers and other devices. The need has never been greater for considering how to supplement the current environmental controls in the operating room that are designed to reduce contaminated air.
