Why Should You Attend:

Handheld electronic devices such as cell phones and tablets are in wide and increasing use in healthcare facilities. These devices can be implicated in transmission of environmentally transmitted pathogens, some being resistant to antibiotics including MRSA and Clostridium difficile. Patients at the greatest risk of this transmission are those with indwelling devices which provide a direct portal of entry for microorganisms.

Phones and tablets and other communication devices are being introduced in healthcare at a much faster pace than protocols and products designed to keep them clean and contamination free. Patients use tablets and phones to register in clinics, to view lab test results and skype with family while hospitalized. Physicians use phones to receive and send messages, and check lab test results. There is currently no standard method or means of ensuring that these devices are kept free from contamination. Innovations such as UV-C devices are being introduced as an effective method for decontaminating phones and tablets.
