Instructor:
Douglas Pilarski
Product ID: 703787
Why Should You Attend:
This course will highlight classifications between exempt versus non-exempt employees as per the Fair Labor Standards Act. It will help determine which of your employees are entitled to be paid at least the current federal minimum wage rate for the first 40 hours worked in a workweek and an overtime rate of at least time and one-half their regular rate of pay.
It will also help attendees determine if an employee is non-exempt (i.e. entitled to minimum wage and overtime) or exempt (paid on a salary basis), including examples of employees that fall within each category (e.g. non-exempt includes bank tellers, bookkeepers, shipping/receiving clerks; exempt are bona fide executives, administrative workers, professionals, and outside sales employees) and the requirements for each exemption.
Finally, the session will conclude with the instructor providing conclusive answers to frequently asked questions from HR professionals about how to correctly classify their employees as exempt and non-exempt and avoid the combination of fines, penalties, or payment of unpaid wages that may be imposed by the Department of Labor for misclassification of exempt or non-exempt status.
